RENEWABLE ENERGY
Solar Farm and Battery Storage Security
Monitored surveillance, dog handlers and guards for solar farms and battery energy storage systems (BESS), including remote sites with no staff on hand.
THE RISK
Why solar farms and BESS sites are targeted
Solar farms are usually large, fenced sites in open countryside, with no staff on site for most of the week. That combination makes them attractive to thieves. Cable containing copper, panels, inverters and tools are all worth taking, and damage to cabling can knock part of a site offline long after the intruders have gone.
Battery energy storage systems bring their own concerns. Containers house expensive, sensitive equipment, and any interference, vandalism or fire risk needs to be spotted early. Both types of site are often some distance from the nearest operator or engineer, so detection and a reliable response plan matter as much as deterrence.
Construction and commissioning phases carry extra risk, with cable drums, panels on pallets and plant on site before permanent systems are working. Once a site is operating, the challenge shifts to long-term oversight at the lowest practical cost, which is where monitored cameras backed by mobile patrols come into their own.
- Cable and copper theft
- Theft of panels, inverters and tools
- Vandalism and interference with equipment
- Trespass on remote, unmanned sites
- Loss of generation while damage is repaired

SOLAR FARM CCTV
Remote monitoring built for off-grid energy sites
Our monitored cameras are battery-operated and solar-powered and need no cables, so they can be placed along the perimeter, at gates and around inverter and battery areas without drawing on site supplies. We look at each site individually and set the number of cameras and their positions to cover the perimeter and the most vulnerable areas.
When a camera detects motion, a video clip goes to the Alarm Receiving Centre. Operators check each alert, which helps filter out false alarms, and follow your agreed escalation process for genuine activity: police, nominated keyholders or a mobile response. For wider views across a large array, CCTV towers can be positioned at key points.
SERVICES
Security services for solar and battery sites
Security dog handlers
NASDU-approved teams cover long perimeters and rows of panels at night, and are a strong deterrent after an incident.
Find out moreManned guarding
SIA-licensed officers control access during construction, commissioning or maintenance, and hold the site when risk is high.
Find out moreMonitored CCTV
Motion-triggered cameras and towers watched by the Alarm Receiving Centre around the clock.
Find out moreMobile patrols
Scheduled and random checks of fences, gates and compounds across one site or a portfolio of sites.
Find out moreAlarm response and key holding
Officers attend alerts and hold keys so engineers and asset managers are not called out for every activation.
Find out morePLANNING
Incident response plans for renewable energy assets
Every energy site should have a clear plan for what happens when something is detected. We work with asset owners, operations and maintenance contractors and landowners to agree who is contacted, in what order, and what our officers should and should not do on arrival, given the electrical hazards on site.
Plans can cover theft, vandalism, fire, storm damage and equipment faults noticed on patrol, along with any damaged fencing or gates found during a visit, so problems are reported quickly and downtime is kept to a minimum. Where solar panels sit on a working farm, the plan can be joined up with farm security for the rest of the holding.
HOW IT WORKS
Deploying security on a solar or BESS site
Site assessment
We review the layout, perimeter, access routes, mobile signal and any history of incidents.
Security design
Camera positions, patrol routes, guarding hours and escalation contacts are agreed and documented.
Installation and briefing
Cameras are installed and tested, and officers are briefed on site safety rules and restricted areas.
Monitoring and review
Alerts are handled around the clock and the plan is reviewed as the site moves from build to operation.
FAQs
Solar farm security FAQs
Do your solar farm cameras need a power connection?
No. The cameras are battery-operated with solar charging and need no cables, so they can be placed wherever coverage is needed on the perimeter or around equipment. They send alerts over the mobile network, which suits remote sites without a spare supply or a data connection.
How do you reduce false alarms on a large site?
Every motion-triggered clip is reviewed by an operator at the Alarm Receiving Centre before any response is called. Wildlife, weather and other harmless triggers can be dismissed, while genuine activity is escalated using your agreed plan. Careful camera positioning at the design stage also helps.
Can you protect a solar farm during construction?
Yes. The build phase often carries the highest risk, with cable, panels and plant on site. We can provide guards for access control, dog handlers overnight and temporary CCTV towers, then scale back to monitored cameras and patrols once the site is operational.
Do your officers enter battery containers or electrical areas?
Officers follow the site safety rules agreed during planning. They report and escalate what they find rather than interfering with electrical equipment, and restricted areas are identified at the briefing. Engineers and nominated keyholders are contacted in line with the incident response plan.
Can you cover several energy sites under one contract?
Yes. We provide nationwide UK coverage, so monitored cameras, patrols and alarm response can be arranged across a portfolio of sites, with the escalation contacts and reporting set up to suit your operations team and each site's access arrangements. Cover can differ between sites depending on their risk.
