FUEL & OIL
Fuel Depot and Oil Facility Security
Security for fuel depots, oil storage sites, tanker yards and the back-of-house areas of forecourts, where theft and trespass carry serious safety risks.
THE RISK
Why fuel and oil sites need specialist security
Fuel is easy to sell and hard to trace, which makes storage tanks, bowsers and parked tankers a target. Thieves may siphon from vehicles, tap into tanks or take drums and containers, and plant and tools on the same site are often taken at the same time.
On a fuel site, the consequences go beyond the value of what is stolen. Tampering with tanks, pipework or valves can cause spills and pollution. Any trespass near flammable stock is a fire risk, both to the intruder and to the site and its neighbours. Security officers therefore need to understand the site's safety rules as well as how to deter crime. They must know where they can and cannot go, where smoking and naked flames are banned, what counts as an emergency, and who to call first.
- Theft of diesel, heating oil and other fuels
- Tampering with tanks, valves and pipework
- Theft from parked tankers and delivery vehicles
- Trespass in hazardous areas
- Break-ins to offices, stores and plant

WHERE WE HELP
Fuel and oil sites we can secure
Fuel is stored and handled in many settings. Our plans follow the way each one operates, from round-the-clock depots to yards that close at the end of the working day.
Fuel and oil depots
Storage and distribution sites with bulk tanks, loading areas and vehicle movements.
Tanker and fleet yards
Parking areas where loaded or part-loaded vehicles stand overnight.
Forecourt back-of-house
Delivery areas, stores and compounds behind the customer-facing parts of a site.
On-site fuel stores
Bowsers and tanks at depots, plant yards and industrial premises.
SERVICES
Security services for fuel facilities
Cover is chosen to suit whether the site operates around the clock or stands empty at night.
Static guards and gatehouse cover
SIA-licensed officers control access, log vehicles and drivers, and check that visitors follow site rules.

LAYERED PROTECTION
Combining people and cameras on fuel sites
Most fuel facilities benefit from layers. Monitored cameras give constant oversight of the perimeter and tank areas and record evidence. Patrols or a dog team add a physical presence that deters people from trying in the first place, and a guard on the gate controls who comes in during operating hours.
Layering also gives you resilience: if one measure is avoided or fails, another is still in place. Where there is no power at the fence line, rapid deployment CCTV towers run on battery and solar power. Where the fuel is part of a wider industrial or logistics operation, see our page on warehouse and industrial security. Fuel stored on quarries and farms is covered in the relevant sector plans.
HOW IT WORKS
Setting up security at a fuel or oil facility
Risk and safety review
We look at the layout, stock, access points, operating hours and the site's safety rules.
Security plan
We agree the mix of guards, dogs, patrols and cameras, and set out escalation contacts and restricted areas.
Briefing and deployment
Officers are briefed on site hazards and procedures before starting, and cameras are installed and tested.
Reporting and review
You receive incident and patrol reports, and the plan is reviewed if risks or operations change.
FAQs
Fuel depot security FAQs
Are your officers briefed on fuel site safety?
Yes. Before any deployment, officers are briefed on the site's own safety rules, restricted areas, emergency procedures and who to contact. They work to those rules on every shift, and our ISO 45001 certification reflects the way we manage health and safety across our operations.
Can security dogs be used around fuel storage?
NASDU-approved dog and handler teams can patrol yards and perimeters at fuel facilities, following the site's safety rules and any restricted areas agreed during planning. Dogs are especially useful on large, dark sites where intruders might hide among tanks, vehicles or stored equipment.
Can cameras be installed without running power to the fence?
Yes. Our CCTV towers and wireless cameras are battery and solar-powered and send alerts over the mobile network, so they can cover perimeters and gates without new cabling. Positions are agreed with you to suit the layout and any hazardous zones.
Do you protect tanker yards overnight?
Yes. Tanker and fleet parking areas can be covered by static guards, dog patrols, mobile patrols or monitored cameras, depending on the number of vehicles and how exposed the yard is. Many operators combine cameras with patrols at varied times.
Can you cover several depots?
Yes. We offer nationwide UK coverage and 24/7 availability, so security can be arranged across multiple locations, with consistent reporting and a single point of contact for your operations team. Cover at each site is planned around its own layout, hours and risks.
