CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

Construction Site Security

Guards, NASDU-approved security dogs, patrols and monitored CCTV for building sites of every size, planned around your programme and your site boundary.

THE RISK

Why building sites attract crime

A live construction site holds plant, tools, fuel, cable and building materials, often behind temporary fencing that was never designed to stop a determined intruder. Once the last contractor leaves for the evening, that value sits unwatched until the morning, and thieves know it.

The risks change as the job progresses. Groundworks bring excavators and dumpers onto site. The frame stage brings steel and scaffold. Fit-out brings copper pipe, cable, boilers and kitchens into buildings that are close to finished but not yet occupied. Every stage needs a slightly different plan, and on remote plots the same risks overlap with those we see at high-theft sites such as plant hire depots, and a loss at any point can hold up the programme, trigger insurance claims and leave trades standing idle.

There is also a safety duty. An open site with deep excavations and working at height is a hazard to trespassers, including children, and principal contractors are expected to keep people out.

  • Theft of plant, tools, diesel and materials
  • Vandalism and arson to part-built structures
  • Trespass onto scaffolds and into excavations
  • Delays and extra cost when stock goes missing

MONITORED CCTV

Construction site CCTV with remote monitoring

Construction site CCTV works best when it is watched. Our battery-operated cameras detect motion and send a short video clip to the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC). An operator reviews it, and if the activity is genuine, follows the agreed escalation plan: a warning, a call to the police, a call to your nominated keyholders or a visit from a mobile officer.

Because the units do not rely on mains power or a site network, they are well suited to new-build plots, road schemes and phased developments. We advise on positioning so cameras cover gates, plant parks, container stores and the most exposed stretches of fence, and we reposition them as the build moves on. Footage is kept for 31 days unless the authorities need it for longer.

Cameras work well on their own for lower-risk sites. For high-value phases, pairing them with a dog handler or a static guard gives you someone on site who can act the moment something is seen.

HOW IT WORKS

Setting up security on your site

1

Site risk assessment

We visit or review drawings and site photos, look at access points, plant storage, neighbours and any past incidents, and agree what needs protecting.

2

Security plan and quote

You receive a written plan setting out the mix of guards, dogs, patrols and cameras, the hours of cover and the escalation contacts.

3

Deployment

Officers are briefed on your site rules and induction, and camera towers are positioned to cover the agreed areas.

4

Review as the build progresses

We adjust cover as phases change, adding protection for fit-out stock or scaling back to mobile patrols when the site is quieter or handed over.

STANDARDS

Accredited construction security you can put in front of a client

Main contractors and developers need a security supplier whose paperwork stands up. Our officers are SIA-licensed, our dogs and handlers are NASDU-approved, and we work to British Standards, including BS 8517-1 for security dogs.

  • NASDU Associate Company Member
  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified
  • Cyber Essentials Certified and ICO registered
  • 24/7 availability with nationwide UK coverage
  • Over 30 years of team experience in the security industry

FAQs

Construction site security FAQs

Do CCTV towers need mains power on a building site?

No. Our rapid deployment towers and wireless cameras run on battery and solar power and send alerts over the mobile network, so they can be installed before site services are connected. That makes them useful on greenfield plots and early groundworks, and they can be moved as the site layout changes during the build.

Can a guard control deliveries as well as security?

Yes. A static officer on the gate can check vehicles against your delivery schedule, record drivers and registrations, keep a visitor log and make sure people have been inducted before they enter. This gives the site manager a clear record of who came and went, alongside out-of-hours protection.

When should I use a dog handler instead of cameras?

Dogs are most useful on large or poorly lit sites, when high-value plant or materials are on site, or after repeated break-ins. A handler can search buildings and compounds and respond in person. Many clients use CCTV for everyday cover and add a dog team during the highest-risk phases.

How long is construction site CCTV footage kept?

Monitored footage is kept for 31 days. If the police or another authority needs a clip as evidence, it is retained for longer. Operators at the Alarm Receiving Centre view footage, and nominated keyholders are contacted as part of the agreed escalation process.

Can you cover short-term or phased projects?

Yes. Cover can be arranged for a single phase, a shutdown period such as Christmas, or the full length of a build. We review the plan with you as the project moves on, so you are not paying for more protection than the current stage needs.
