QUARRIES & AGGREGATES
Quarry Security and CCTV
NASDU-approved dog handlers and remote CCTV for active and inactive quarries, built for large, open and often isolated sites.
THE RISK
Why quarries are difficult to secure
Quarries are vast, rugged and usually in rural areas. They often have several access points, long boundaries and limited perimeter protection, and they stand empty outside working hours. Heavy plant, fuel, tools and materials make them a regular target.
The risks are not just financial. Quarry faces, water and machinery are dangerous to trespassers, and operators have a duty to keep people out. Illegal dumping adds clean-up costs, and damage to equipment can halt production. Inactive or mothballed quarries bring their own problems, as they can attract off-road driving, swimming in flooded workings and gatherings that are hard to break up without a regular presence on site. Conventional measures such as fencing and locked gates rarely cover every route in on their own.
- Fuel and machinery theft
- Trespass, including off-road vehicles
- Illegal dumping and fly-tipping
- Vandalism to plant and site buildings
- Health and safety risks to intruders

K9 SECURITY
Security dog handlers for quarry sites
Our NASDU-approved handlers and their dogs are trained to detect, deter and respond in remote, open environments. A dog uses scent, hearing and movement to find intruders across ground that would take a person far longer to search, and a visible dog team sends a clear message that the site is protected.
Dog teams can be stationed overnight, at weekends or during site shutdowns, and they work to BS 8517-1, the code of practice for security dogs. When you pair a trained dog with an experienced handler, intruders are far less likely to try their luck. Handlers can also report damage, open gates, fuel leaks or signs of dumping they find on their rounds, giving the site manager an early warning before the morning shift arrives. QUARRY CCTV
Remote CCTV for isolated quarries
For constant oversight, our remote CCTV systems watch access points, perimeters, fuel stores and plant parks. Motion detection sends clips to the Alarm Receiving Centre, where operators check them and follow your escalation plan. Visible cameras and signage also act as a deterrent in their own right, making it clear that anyone entering will be seen, recorded and reported.
Coverage is planned around the areas where losses are most likely, such as diesel bowsers and parked plant. Options include mobile CCTV towers, solar-powered units and multi-camera coverage based on your site layout, risk level and access points. Monitoring runs 24/7, so the site stays watched overnight, over weekends and during shutdowns. Footage is kept securely and supports insurance and incident records.

FAQs
Quarry security FAQs
Why are dogs effective for quarry security?
Quarries are often vast, remote and difficult to watch. Trained security dogs use scent, sound and movement to identify intruders across open ground faster than a person searching alone, and a visible dog team is a strong deterrent. Handlers are NASDU-approved and SIA-licensed, and dog work follows BS 8517-1.
What threats does quarry security help prevent?
The main threats are fuel and machinery theft, trespass, illegal dumping and vandalism. Security also helps operators keep people, including young people exploring, away from dangerous areas such as faces and water, and gives a record of incidents that supports insurance and health and safety compliance.
Is quarry CCTV monitored overnight and at weekends?
Yes. Monitoring runs 24/7. Motion-triggered clips go to the Alarm Receiving Centre, where operators check them and follow the agreed escalation plan, whether the site is closed overnight, over a weekend or during a shutdown period. Visible cameras also deter intruders.
Can you secure a quarry with no power at the gate?
Yes. Our CCTV towers and solar-powered cameras do not need a mains supply and send alerts over the mobile network. We check signal strength at the proposed camera positions during the site review, and units can be moved as extraction areas change.
Where do you provide quarry security services?
We work across the UK, providing security for active and inactive quarries in rural and urban areas. Cover can be arranged short term, for example during a shutdown, or as an ongoing contract, and it can combine dog handlers, cameras and patrols as your risk level requires.
